It was all colour, cheer, and competition as Bagabaga College of Education, Tamale, burst into excitement during its 2025 Hall Week Celebration. Like how ants react when they see sugar, students from all corners of campus gathered for a weeklong showcase of strength, speed, strategy and of course, plenty of school pride.
From Saturday, 5th July to Friday, 11th July 2025, the college community was treated to a series of sporting events including volleyball, handball, athletics, and football all well contested by both male and female students. If they (students) didn’t come to run, jump, or score, they certainly came to shout and support.
The college’s four traditional halls thus; Dickens (Green), Ferguson (Blue), Guggisberg (Red), and Candler (Yellow) took to the field in full force. Their colours lit up the pitch like a rainbow that forgot to stay in the sky. And true to the saying, “Even the chicken must dance when the drum beats,” every hall danced to the rhythm of competition with remarkable zeal.
The event was not short on dignitaries. In attendance were Professor Issahaku Gazali (College Principal) and Dr. Mumuni Zakaria Fusheini (Vice Principal), accompanied by several teaching staff who cheered and clapped like proud uncles at a village wedding. Also present were the Alumni Representative, the Sagnarigu Municipal Physical Education Coordinator, and other invited guests, all adding prestige to the event.
Awards were not in short supply either. Talented individual athletes were recognised for their outstanding performances some so fast they made the wind jealous. The coveted “Most Well-Behaved Hall” title was deservedly snatched by Ferguson Hall, reminding us that “The child who knows how to wash their hands eats with the elders.” But it was Candler Hall that stole the show, emerging as the Overall Best Performing Hall. Their teamwork was tighter than a Dagomba man’s rope around the neck of a goat being dragged to Aboabo market!
Special credit must go to the Sports Department, led by the ever-energetic Mr. Hamza Abdulai (a.k.a. Kenya) and the meticulous Mr. Jabiru Hussein. Their tireless efforts and flawless coordination made the week’s events a resounding success. “When the roots of a tree begin to decay, it spreads death to the branches,” but thanks to their strong leadership, the roots of sportsmanship in Bagabaga remain very much alive and well.
This year’s Hall Week reminds us that education is not all books and exams. Sometimes, it is about running barefoot across a field with your hallmates screaming your name and for that one moment, you are the hero!
