Bagabaga College of Education Organises 3-Day Security Training Workshop to Strengthen Campus Safety

Bagabaga College of Education, Tamale, has successfully organised a three-day intensive training workshop aimed at enhancing security awareness and strengthening safety measures on campus. The training programme, which took place from Tuesday, 7th April to Thursday, 9th April 2026 brought together key stakeholders within the college community to build capacity in modern security practices. The initiative, organised by the college management, forms part of ongoing efforts to create a safe, secure, and responsive learning environment for both staff and students.

The workshop was officially opened by the Vice Principal, Dr. Mumuni Zakaria Fusheini, who emphasised the critical role of security in human life and institutional development. In his address, he urged participants to approach the training with seriousness and commitment, noting that “a safe environment is the foundation upon which effective teaching and learning can thrive.”

Participants included campus security personnel, course representatives from various academic programmes and levels, as well as some members of the college community. Their diverse representation ensured a holistic approach to campus security awareness and response.

The training was spearheaded by Rev. Isaac N. Kombat, who served as the lead organiser and moderator throughout the sessions. He was ably assisted by the Coordinator for Staff Development, Research and Publications, Mr. Macharious Nabang, whose technical support ensured smooth coordination of the programme.

Facilitation was provided by a highly experienced team from the Military Police, Northern Command, led by Captain Asante, alongside other professionals including a Safety Officer, Fire Officer, and a Medical Practitioner (Medic). Their combined expertise brought both theoretical knowledge and practical insights to participants.

• Fire Safety and Equipment Use (Lecture and Practical)

• First Aid Training (Lecture and Practical)

The sessions combined interactive lectures and practical demonstrations, equipping participants with essential skills in emergency response, conflict resolution, and modern security challenges such as cybersecurity threats.

The workshop was attended by several key officials of the college, including:

• The Finance Officer, Mr. Francis Tingonti

The training concluded with remarks from the Principal, Professor Issahaku Gazali, who expressed profound appreciation to the facilitation team, particularly the Military Police personnel from the Northern Command led by Captain Asante, for their dedication and professionalism. He commended participants for their active engagement and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve safety and security within the college community.

The successful organisation of this workshop underscores Bagabaga College of Education’s commitment to proactive security management and capacity building. By equipping both security personnel and student leaders with relevant knowledge and practical skills, the college continues to strengthen its preparedness to respond effectively to security challenges.
